Varieties of Rice in Indonesia - Rice is a rice crop which has the Latin name Oryza sativa. Rice is widely cultivated in rural areas particularly highlands. The rice plant belonging to plant grains or cereals which still belongs to the family of grasses or Poaceae. 1. Hybrid Varieties

The advantages of hybrid rice is as follows:

• If implanted on 1 hectare of land, will be able to produce 10-12 tonnes of grain.

While the weakness of hybrid rice is as follows:

• Hybrid rice seed can only be used in one planting, although it can be grown for the second time, the result is the harvest will drop dramatically.

For an example of this hybrid rice among others are: Intani Intani 1 and 2, Adirasa 1, Adirasi 64, PP1, H1, Rokan, SL 8 and Sl 11, Sembada B3 and B9.

2. Seed Varieties

• More resistant to drought.
• Fluffier rice produced and fragrant.

For example yielding varieties of rice, among others are: Ciherang, IR-64, Ciliwung, Cobogo, Cisadane, and many others.

3. Local Varietas

Local rice varieties are rice varieties that come from a region that has long been adapted and has a value of its own advantages and disadvantages. His name is also local, so many different types and its characteristics vary depending on the region. An example is rice and Gropak Indramayu, Simenep, Srimulih, and Andel Jaran.
